Good living conditions have been created for the students of LAU, a full-fledged leisure is organized, the cadets have everything they need to practice various sports indoors and outdoors. There is a yacht club nearby, where, in addition to yachts and dinghies, our small training vessels are based. There is a gas charging station for weather balloons at the school, in a word, there is everything you need for a normal educational process, recreation, and everyday life. Is everything that has been created and accumulated for more than 40 years for a single school complex worth nothing? It's easy to destroy it. But I say that closing the school means committing a crime. Our marine technical school, if you want a college, in two years, with the completion of the repair of some facilities, it will be possible to demonstrate to guests from all over the world as an exemplary maritime educational institution.
The statement of his deputy, but with additional arguments, was supported by the head of LAU B. Selyanin.
— We know the periods when the average maritime schools operated in conditions of overload. Today, the need for specialists with secondary education has fallen sharply. Therefore, the recruitment to LAU was reduced by 2 times. But this allowed us to organize the educational process in a new way, to create good living conditions for cadets.
Traditionally, LAU is an educational institution for the training of ship mechanics and electrical engineers. We are ready to introduce the third leading specialty — ship technicians, i.e. specialists of combined professions. Our database is perfect for such training, it is universal.
At the meeting held in the autumn, the lack of a forecast of personnel needs for the fleet was emphasized. It is possible that in the near future there will be a need for a higher number of specialists with secondary education. The usual fleet renewal cycle is three years, which leads to changes in personnel in one direction or another. And the school cycle according to the existing programs is also three-year. Practice has shown that LAU is able to reorganize the educational process in accordance with the requirements of the fleet. Therefore, it is impossible to disband the school without having a clear perspective, it can become an irreparable mistake.
The long-term desire of many leaders of the Ministry of Defense to gather LVIMA under one roof is justified. But our buildings are not quite acceptable for the normal organization of the on-line university educational process. The transfer of buildings to LAU is a half-measure. It will not solve the problems of LVIM by 1993-1995, and we will lose LAU irrevocably.
The professions of ship mechanic, electrician, ship technician will remain basic for Minmorflot until 2000. For LMU, the training program will be determined by the Baltic Shipping Company, taking into account its own personnel needs. We are able to provide shipping companies of the whole country with our graduates. LAU trains aerologists and hydrologists for stations serving the fleet in the Arctic. The need for them is confirmed. In addition, we are ready to increase the recruitment of indigenous people of the North to these faculties, which will give the region stable personnel.
The plans of the school included the adaptation of the second wing of the Konstantinovsky Palace for the training of ship mechanics on ships with nuclear power plants. A specialized LVIMU simulator, located a few hundred meters from the school, could help in studying. We recently sent 12 of our graduates to Murmansk to work on nuclear-powered ships. In the future, the training program for such specialists could be significantly improved on its own basis. Stay ahead of the game by discovering the most exciting new online casinos !
